Hackers prowling around webphone systems, security firm says; Company claims discovery of more than 100 weaknesses among big-name VoIP systems

Telephone systems that use the Internet to make calls are easily breached by hackers and the bad guys are just beginning to attack, according to an Ottawa technology security firm.

More than 100 vulnerabilities have been found in VoIP (voice-over-Internet-protocol) phone systems manufactured by Nortel Networks Corp., Cisco Systems Inc. and Avaya Inc., states a new report by VoIPshield Systems Inc.

The vulnerabilities would allow hackers to tap into a new generation of telephones and record conversations or crash the systems, possibly leaving a business without a phone for hours, the study says.

"The most dangerous thing is that people don't understand is that their phone systems are targets. Everyone trusts the phone," said Rick Dalmazzi, chief executive of VoIPshield.

Comments:
This is crazy! I can't believe hackers can penetrate into VOIP. Usually I use Phone cards, or Skype, but not VOIP
